Lone Star College Vet Technology and Performing Arts Center

With 90,000 students, Lone Star is the Houston area’s largest higher education institution and the fastest-growing community college system in Texas. IDS facilitated the system’s growth on the Tomball campus, working on two concurrent projects with two different design teams.

For the 30,000 square foot, 425-seat Performing Fine Arts Center, IDS weaved the access road through mature elm, pecan, and pine trees. IDS worked closely with the college and landscape architect to explore multiple road alignments to save the greatest number of trees possible.

The two-story Veterinary Technology Building, an addition to the existing Large Animal Facility, had different site issues. Its severe slope (the back side of building is elevated 10 feet) required detailed grading coordination to assure safe access for supply trucks and transporting animals. This project was a Houston Business Journal Landmark Award Finalist.
