Houston Amateur Sports Park
Houston, Texas
Multiple moving parts impacted the engineering services for this 100 acre sports park at SH 288 and Airport Boulevard. First, three distinct client voices oversaw this combination practice facility for the Houston Dynamo professional soccer team and first-class playing fields for area youth and league soccer. Next, concurrent design and construction of adjacent projects required meticulous coordination. The City of Houston’s Kirby Drive extension, providing critical access to the park, was handled by a different engineering firm, while on the other side of the park, we designed a new access road shared with the Houston Community College South campus, which had to mesh with the college’s new internal road.
IDS provided engineering design and surveying services and successfully navigated the multi-party environment, finding opportunities to save the client money. IDS designed site grading, storm drainage, water distribution, sanitary sewer, and paving facilities. Additionally, recognizing that the Kirby Drive project would create capacity in the adjacent drainage channel, IDS gained approval from the City to use this capacity instead of constructing additional drainage infrastructure and paying additional impact fees.
