IDS provided engineering services for the design of full-depth pavement reconstruction, storm sewer design, as well as water and sanitary sewer design to serve an 80 acre subdivision in southeast Houston. Improvements included the removal and replacement of the existing storm sewer drainage system with a new, upsized system to alleviate local flooding within the neighborhood. The base design of the replacement storm sewer system included box culverts and reinforced concrete pipes designed to accommodate the two-year storm event. Box culverts were then upsized to accommodate the 100-year storm event. A restrictor pipe was designed at the outfall to limit stormwater from entering the outfall channel. Street replacement was designed to facilitate directing the 100-year event accordingly. The scope of this project also included full pavement replacement along with replacement of old waterlines ranging in size from 6-inches to 12-inches, as well as a sanitary sewer system ranging in size from 6-inch to 18-inch. Special consideration was given to traffic control plans and construction phasing to minimize disruption to neighborhood traffic. Tree protection, driveway replacement, and resident access were key considerations during design and construction. Technical analysis was performed utilizing XP-SWMM 2D modeling.
