Please join us in congratulating Kevin J. Tokarski, P.E. on his retirement from IDS Engineering Group

After nearly 30 years of dedicated service, we are happy to announce the retirement of Kevin J. Tokarski, P.E., our Chief Engineer. Kevin has been an integral part of IDS, helping to shape the success and quality that we are known for today.

Raised in Michigan, Kevin started his engineering career as a draftsman throughout high school and college. After graduating Michigan Technological University in 1981, he packed up his Camero and moved to Texas. Kevin spent 4 years at an engineering firm in Conroe before he transitioned to another firm who was the engineer of record for the Clear Lake City Water Authority. In this role, Kevin was responsible for the design and construction phase services for the 2,500-acre Friendswood Development that was ultimately comprised of 6,500 single family residential lots.

In 1997, Kevin joined IDS as a Senior Project Manager and led a team of land development engineers, designers, surveyors, and construction professionals on several master planned communities in the Houston Area. At the time Kevin joined IDS, he had prepared plans for more residential lots than the combined experience of the firm. One community that benefited from Kevin’s creativity and technical knowledge is Imperial Oaks located in Montgomery County. While working on this community, Kevin developed several innovative solutions, including the conversion of sand pits into a stormwater detention facility and transforming a road crossing from a culvert-laden concept into a scenic drive crossing three lakes.

In 2005, Kevin was invited to become a shareholder of IDS. In addition, since 2008, Kevin has served as the Chief Engineer for IDS and oversees quality for the firm’s projects, sharing his knowledge and experience with our team of engineers and E.I.T.’s for projects from the start of design through construction. Furthermore, he led the creation and maintenance of a resource library of standards, agency design criteria, and other tools that the firm utilizes.

Kevin plans to retire at the end of March. With his career coming to an end, Kevin has planned an exciting future with his wife, Helen. They will spend this next chapter chasing grandchildren, fishing on the beautiful waters of Galveston Bay, driving their Jeep offroad, cycling, or looking for scenic spots for photo opportunities in and around Texas, Utah, or Colorado.

We truly appreciate Kevin’s dedication to the firm, as he has played a big role in the guidance and mentoring of all our current and past employees. Kevin will be greatly missed, especially his purple pen. Please make sure to extend your congratulations to Kevin J. Tokarski, P.E.
