IDS employees lend their expertise to students
Many of us have a story from our childhood about a guest speaker that changed the course of our life. On Friday, May 2, our goal was to create that moment for several Dean Middle School students. More than 160 math students spent their afternoon working alongside 13 IDS employees laughing and learning while engaging in hands-on activities. The event was a two-way experience – the engineers were able to see what the kids enjoyed while at the same time, it gave the kids an opportunity to learn what engineers do. The students were taught about surveying, hydraulics and hydrology, building bridges, pump rehabilitation, and many other engineering related topics. IDS employees enjoyed their time at Dean Middle School and hope that the insight these young students gained may one day assist them in choosing engineering as a future career path.
